2025 Policy Agenda

Tens of millions of hard-working people in the United States struggle to afford basic needs like food, housing, and childcare. Families from all social and economic backgrounds can’t make ends meet, much less get ahead.

POVERTY AND INEQUALITY ARE POLICY CHOICES.

Despite trillions of dollars invested in programs and the social safety net, the poverty rate in the United States has barely budged over the past 50 years. We must choose a different path.

UpTogether’s Policy Agenda is rooted in over 20 years of trusting and investing in people. It is shaped by UpTogether’s approach of community, cash, and choice, along with the voice and experience of the thousands of families who have experienced the value of this approach.

We believe in a new way to support mobility for those facing financial hardship, one without burdensome requirements, complex systems, and outdated definitions of what it takes to make ends meet. We invest directly in the initiative families are already taking to get ahead, and we aim to transform a system that holds people back into one that helps them thrive.

Our policy recommendations value people’s dignity and autonomy, ensuring that all families can flourish. Each recommendation efficiently and fairly shifts capital to communities nationwide, with no strings attached or unfair restrictions and requirements. Our Policy Agenda is centered on the UpTogether Approach.
