Selene Chavez
Compliance Specialist
My name is Selene Chavez and I have been with UpTogether since August 2020 when I was initially hired as part of the Support team. I was raised in the small town of Hatch, NM where my family worked as seasonal farm workers. I am the youngest of ten and became a mom myself at the age of 16. Having my daughter so young has fueled my desire to shatter stereotypes and be more than a statistic.
My passion to help others also stems from the poverty and homelessness my family experienced as immigrants with no support system. In an effort to drive change, I volunteer on the Board of Directors for my local United Way advocating for the needs of our spanish-speaking community as well as youth success. I graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, emphasis in Information Systems and a minor in Accounting.
Prior to my time at UpTogether, I worked at a Title I public school assisting bilingual students with technology needs and community resources. I then furthered my technology career providing IT support for our local government and community members. I strongly believe self-sufficiency is attainable when families have access to technology resources and community support to guide them and move forward.
