Alisha is a longtime East Oakland resident celebrating 14 years drug-free, 3 years of sobriety and raising her 8-year-old grandson, all while starting a nonprofit to help others in her community.
Lionel sets goals and goes after them. He’s well on his way to becoming a property owner in his hometown of Detriot and is also working on a plan to earn a college degree in organizational management. Like many other UpTogether members, he also gives back to his community, sharing what he learned from 29 years in prison to mentor young people so they stay on the right path.
Imani has learned how to navigate experiencing homelessness with a 5-year-old son. Now she is passing on that knowledge to other parents in her California community, regularly sharing resources and information about programs that can assist them. Imani has a goal to earn a college degree and work with children, either in a daycare or in the medical field as a pediatrician.
Irene is a proud grandmother living in Texas who accomplished her goal of getting out of tremendous debt and now intends to pursue her GED.
