Gamalah Munassar

Gamalah is a devoted mother, community advocate, and proud Oakland resident with roots in Yemen. She believes in the power of education and compassion to create change. She says she has worked hard to support her family and create opportunities for her children through determination, empathy and a commitment to growth through education and community involvement. Fueled by the joy of problem-solving to help others, Gamalah says she joined the VOICE Board to learn, listen, and contribute to meaningful research rooted in real experiences. For Gamalah, “voice” means speaking up, sharing vulnerability, and standing for those who cannot. She says she values the research outcomes of this work because it gives people the opportunity to be heard, supported and uplifted. Gamalah says participating in the VOICE Board gave her a sense of belonging and connection—describing her fellow VOICE Board members as one of the kindest and most supportive teams she’s ever been part of.
